Dinosaur Storyhour

Image
It was a beautiful, sunny day, and we had a swamp full of babies for dinosaur storyhour. Stories:  Dinosaurs Galore ! by Giles Andreae. The babies appreciated the flannelboard dinos -- next time I really should share and let Oliver and Kiley and Wisdom help put them up. Saturday Night at the Dinosaur Stomp by Carol Diggory Shields. I did skip quite a few pages, but I love this story, and I had the big book. Dinosaur vs. Bedtime by Shea. This goofy, short book has vividly brilliant pictures. Snappy Little Dinosaurs -- pop-up book.  Dinosaur Songs: Large & Small -- because dinosaurs are large and small! Dino Ditty, Ditty Dum Ditty Do "sung to "Do wah Diddy Diddy" Here he comes Just a stomping with his feet, Singing "Dino ditty, ditty dum ditty do." Searching all around for something good to eat, Singing "Dino ditty, ditty dum ditty do." He's huge (he's huge). He's strong (he's strong). He's huge, he's strong, won't be

We had a wonderful storyhour for those brave souls who tossed their fates to the winds and risked all to make it here through the torrential rains! Savvy moms knew all the short cuts and detours around local flood plains. By the time storyhour was over, the rains were too. Play: Mouse Count by Ellen Stoll Walsh. I had an enormous snake puppet from PPLC, 10 little mice (actually only 9 because I lost one but who's counting?) a jar, and a stone I quickly harvested from the library landscaping. Remembering all I had learned from magicians visiting this summer, I palmed the mice and pulled them out from behind the babies. The babies were a little scared of that large snake. I look forward to scaring the older children more. This wonderful story is just concrete enough and has just enough about being eaten up ("But he was still hungry," Isabella kept repeating) to hold toddler attention. Stories: Whose Mouse Are You? by Robert Kraus. Great pictures, charming, simple story. M
