Snow and Snowman Storytime, Wednesday, January 4

Well the weather outside finally feels a bit more like winter. Maybe not snow exactly, but at least we can wear our sweaters, and our babies are so cute bundled up! B o o k s Frosty the Snowman (reference) Intro: this is a book that makes music. Listen! And then model your shock and amazement at the sound that comes out when you open the book up. (And then get ready to shut it again because there's no stop on it! That's Not My Snowman board book Watt.  Small group in a circle, so I got down with them so they could all touch scarves, etc. Snow by Manya Stojic. Nice book about snow coming and how it affects all those woodland animals the babies love so much -- owls and bunnies, etc. Many puppets Didn't get to: Hello, Snow  by Hope Vestergaard. Short rhymy book; I emphasized the getting dressed part of it and cut it short. Bear Snores On , board book by Karma Wilson.    I did this as a little play, complete with big bear, mouse, badger from PPLC, crow from Halloween, and bunn

Last Storytime before the holidays! Books:   Santa Duck  by David Milgrim. For the first time, I did this using puppets. I had a lot of fun with this, subbing in a couple of my favorite puppets if I didn't have the ones in the book, and the babies really enjoyed seeing the turtle, the cat, the cow, etc.  A nice performance piece. Dinosaur vs. Santa.  Bob Shea.  I know these are so short they should be great for babies, but the concepts -- making gifts, etc. -- are still beyond them, and they don't really get anything except how noisy they are. Spot's First Christmas board book by Eric Hill.  Cute, but maye next year I'll go back to Baby's Christmas Present instead. Jingle Bells by Trapani.  And use all your bells. Where is Baby's Dreidel by Karen Katz.  Sub in for Spot's First Christmas. Where's Baby's Christmas Present by Karen Katz. I cheated by using the theme of this book rather than the words. I searched for Baby's Christmas Presen

Books: Pajama Time  by Sandra Boynton.  Really a performance number. Maisy's Bedtime   by Lucy Cousins. Props: Panda bear. I've heard people complain that Maisy books are a bit dull, but I think she is very zen. I had a lot of fun with this, brushing my teeth, putting my imaginary PJs on, really turning off the lights, and I even went out the door to "go potty." Sweet Dreams by Kimiko Kajikawa . Lovely, and the babies paid attention. (small well behaved crowd.) Dinosaur vs. Bedtime by Bob Shea. His stuff is a great addition to baby storytime. So funny! So noisy! Great pix!  I did a lot of roaring, and at the end of the book when Dinosaur went down for the count, I collapsed slowly onto the floor, curled up, and went to sleep.  V. good with babies. Tumble Bumble by Felicia Bond. So jiggy and cute.   The Napping House by Audrey Wood.  Big Book How to Tuck in your Sleepy Lion   board book Clarke Songs:    Five Bears in a Bed . I love this production number. I love the m
